The Rydal Hall Tea Shop

The Rydal Hall Tea Shop

The Tea Shop at Rydal Hall lies on the ancient path known as the Coffin Trail between Ambleside and Rydal and is a popular stopping off point for walkers as well as visitors to the Hall itself.  The Hall is the conference and retreat house run by the Carlisle Diocese of the Church of England and the Tea Shop is a thriving part of the many services offered there.  (For more information about Rydal Hall visit the website www.rydalhall.org)

This project involved an extension to the existing building which almost doubled its size, built in matching traditional materials including stone walls and a slate roof.   The roof was renewed over the whole building and new oak trusses, oak purlins and ridge beams are now a feature of the interior.   A new stainless steel commercial kitchen was installed and new underfloor heating laid below the natural slate paved floor.   The work was carried out at the same time as the restoration of the Rydal Hall formal gardens (see separate illustrations on the website) and was part funded by a grant from the publically funded body ‘Cumbria Vision’.  Its profits now go towards the upkeep of the gardens which are freely open to the public.
