The Bishop’s house and office in Kendal

The house is located on the outskirts of Kendal and is occupied by the Bishop of Penrith and his family.  An extension was added to the side to provide separate office facilities for the Bishop and his secretary on the ground floor with its own separate entrance.  The new accommodation includes a separate WC and Kitchenette.  At the front at first floor level is an additional bedroom which connects to the landing in the house.

The extension is designed in matching materials and the details generally are intended to be in keeping with the original house.  The lintel over the door to the offices is carved by the sculptor Danny Clahane in the form of symbolic fire.  The Bishop’s private office is at the back of the house and overlooks the attractive garden.  It has a bay window to exploit the views and to bring light into the room.
