A farmhouse near Windermere
The house is a traditional lakeland farmhouse dating from the 17th century and is listed for its historical importance. It is constructed in local stone which has been rendered and painted white, with a conventional slate roof and white painted timber windows in a variety of designs. The house is at the centre of stone built farm buildings and set in beautiful farmland near Windermere. It had been extended in the 19th century and, although occupied continuously, was badly in need of restoration at the time that my clients decided to make it their permanent home.
The house was stripped out and refurbished throughout with new bathrooms, a new kitchen and a new oak staircase. The large gable wall was taken down and re-built and the slate roof was re-laid. New heating and electrical systems were installed including a new deep drilled borehole for the water supply. A new extension to create a Sun Room was constructed on the south facing garden elevation and this forms a useful extension to the kitchen.
The alterations converted the farmhouse to a modern, comfortable family home.
