Re-ordering at St Peter’s Church, Heversham
This re-ordering project involved the creation of an open area in the Chancel to provide space for a new altar and removable communion rails to be located under the Chancel arch. Two rows of pews were removed from the front of the Nave and a new projecting platform was formed across the full width of the Chancel. The front row of oak choir pews in the Chancel was retained but moved back to provide a more open space between them and the whole Chancel area was carpeted. The removable communion rail and altar were specially designed for the location by the cabinet makers Peter Hall and Son, from Staveley.
In addition, the pews in the Chapel to the south of the Chancel, the Dallam Chapel, were removed and this area was replanned to include a new kitchenette and servery. These were constructed from the timber reclaimed from the redundant pews which were also used to create a book and magazine display table.
The Victorian font that was originally sited near to the west entrance porch was relocated to an area at the east end of the South Ailse and pews were removed from the front of the North Aisle to create an area for a music group. New multi media equipment including two large flat screen TVs was installed.
